Jaipur BookMark (JBM), South Asia’s premier B2B platform for the publishing industry, commenced its 12th edition alongside the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) 2025. Running from January 30 to February 3, JBM continues to play a crucial role in shaping the Indian publishing landscape by fostering collaborations, innovation, and business relationships within the global book trade.

The event brings together publishers, literary agents, editors, writers, translators, and booksellers, solidifying its reputation as a hub for the publishing industry. The Opening Reception featured key addresses by H.E. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India; JBM Director Manisha Chaudhry; Jaipur Literature Festival Co-Director Namita Gokhale; and JLF Producer and Teamwork Arts Managing Director Sanjoy K. Roy.

Reaffirming Norway’s long-standing partnership with JBM, Ambassador Stener emphasized the importance of translations in global publishing. Manisha Chaudhry outlined the key highlights of this year’s programme, while Namita Gokhale reflected on the publishing industry’s transformative role. Sanjoy K. Roy expressed gratitude for Norway’s continued support over the past 12 years.

The keynote address, From Palmleaf to Pagemaker: A Biography of the Indian Book, was delivered by historian A.R. Venkatachalapathy, who explored the evolution of book culture in India, from ancient manuscripts to modern publishing.

A standout session, Green Shoots of Big Ideas: Writing for Children, featured Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo in conversation with journalist Mandira Nayar. Duflo highlighted the need for children’s literature to reflect diverse experiences and introduce economic concepts in an accessible way. Another significant discussion saw A.R. Venkatachalapathy, Kannan Sundaram, and Mythili Sundaram join Neeta Gupta to celebrate the 30-year journey of Tamil publishing house Kalachuvadu, reflecting on its contributions and challenges.

As JBM continues to grow, it remains an essential platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration in South Asian publishing.
