In a significant move towards ensuring women’s security, the Rajasthan government has launched the Kalika Patrolling Unit, a 24/7 dedicated women-led patrol force aimed at providing immediate assistance to women in distress. This initiative comes in response to rising crimes against women and aims to create a safer environment for them across the state.

How Will the Kalika Patrolling Unit Work?

The government has deployed 20 specially trained female police officers in Alwar district, with plans to expand the initiative across all districts in Rajasthan. These officers will patrol in two shifts, ensuring round-the-clock vigilance. Equipped with scooters, they will respond to emergency situations promptly.

To facilitate quick action, the Rajkot Citizen App will be used to trace the location of women in need. The app features a “Need Help” option, allowing any woman in distress to immediately notify the Kalika Patrolling Unit, which will dispatch a team to assist her at the earliest.

How 24/7 Patrolling and Safety Apps Make a Difference

  1. Instant Emergency Response – The presence of dedicated patrol teams ensures quick intervention in cases of harassment, stalking, or assault. Women can seek help through the app without the fear of being ignored or delayed.
  2. Increased Police Visibility – Regular patrols in public spaces, near colleges, schools, and marketplaces deter potential offenders, reducing incidents of harassment.
  3. Confidence Among Women – Knowing that an all-women police force is actively monitoring the city instills confidence among women and young girls, making them feel safer in public places.
  4. Tech-Enabled Security – The app ensures seamless communication between the police and victims, eliminating the need for women to find helpline numbers or visit police stations during emergencies.
  5. Preventive Action Against Crimes – The Kalika Patrolling Unit will take strict action against eve-teasers and repeat offenders, sending a strong message against crimes targeting women.
  6. Community Awareness & Engagement – Police officials are actively conducting awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and through media, educating women on how to use the app effectively. Over 1,000 women have already installed the app, and efforts are ongoing to reach more.

With Rajasthan implementing this initiative across all districts, it marks a progressive step toward women’s empowerment and safety. By combining technology, proactive policing, and community engagement, the state aims to reduce crimes against women and create a safer environment for all.
