A shocking and bizarre chain of events unfolded after a 30-year-old man attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested in Thane on Sunday after a meticulous investigation by Mumbai police.

According to authorities, Shehzad initially entered the upscale Satguru Sharan building in the early hours of January 16, intending to commit theft. However, things took a violent turn when he stabbed Khan, 54, multiple times before fleeing the scene. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent a five-hour surgery.

What followed next shocked investigators: Shehzad, rather than fleeing in panic, chose to sleep soundly at a bus stop before changing his clothes and making his way through the city. After altering his appearance, he journeyed from Bandra to Dadar, then to Worli, and finally headed to Thane—presumably to lay low.

While the accused tried to stay off the radar by taking precautions, he ultimately slipped up. Police officials noted that his backpack, visible in CCTV footage, became the key to cracking the case. Tracing this clue, they traced Shehzad’s movements across the city through CCTV cameras, drum data, and online transactions.

The investigation took a new turn when a face image captured on Bandra’s CCTV led authorities to match the suspect to individuals with prior criminal records. After hours of scrutiny, the police found Shehzad walking towards Bandra railway station at 7 am, visibly wearing different clothes.

A significant breakthrough came when investigators learned that Shehzad had worked in a pub in Worli, allowing him to blend into the area undetected on the night of the incident. The next morning, he approached a labor contractor for work before fleeing the city. A trace of his mobile number, provided by the contractor, revealed that Shehzad had made online payments while on the run, leading police to connect the dots.

The accused has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including robbery with intent to cause grievous harm and house-breaking, and faces further provisions under the Passport Act. A court has remanded Shehzad in five-day police custody, with authorities suggesting the possibility of an international conspiracy linked to the attack.

As investigations continue, the chilling audacity of Shehzad’s actions and the daring nature of his escape attempt have left many shocked, raising questions about the motives behind the brutal attack on one of Bollywood’s most prominent figures.
